Our Services

We are a new educational experience available to all RCT schools, aiming to provide primary school learners with hands-on experiences of farm animals and farm life. We believe that it is vital for future generations to have a basic understanding of farming, nature, the natural world, and where food comes from.

We operate a working smallholding based in Llanharry, South Wales, breeding and rearing pigs, sheep, cattle, and chickens. Our animals are processed locally, and we sell directly to consumers. Our ethos has always been to educate people about buying ethically raised, low-carbon meat.

A typical visit to your setting would include 2-3 sheep/lambs, 2 calves, 3 piglets, and 2 chickens, all under pop-up gazebos, to engage with one class at a time. This will give learners a visual, hands-on experience and allow us to interact with them and explain our daily routines and how we care for our animals. We will ensure that all mess is taken away. If there is a specific topic being taught/covered, we can tailor our talk to incorporate the relevant subjects. We will ensure that all discussions align with the Curriculum for Wales and we will address your key learning objectives and success criteria.

 

Additionally, we will have up to 30 pet lambs available between the end of March and June for bottle feeding. This is a seasonal opportunity and can be accommodated at the farm or on the school site. We have priced per bottle which will feed one lamb. We recommend that foundation and key stage 1 for three children to share one bottle, and 2 children per bottle for key stage two pupils. 

All staff are DBS enhanced checked, we have our own public liability insurance, and possess a movement permit from APHA that allows us to bring farm animals to schools. We will provide copies of our risk assessments ahead of arrival via email.
